UK Supplier since 2005
Founded in the UK in 2005, Wisper have a wealth of information about and experience in developing new electric bikes. Although over the years, there have been 2 changes in ownership, MD David Miall has been there throughout.
They offer 3 ranges of e-bikes, Traditional, Wayfarer and Tailwind.
Wisper Traditional Electric Bikes
The Traditional Range are by no means the original electric bikes marketed by the company, but offer the customer a comprehensive range of models and several options. 905 Crossbar, 705 Low step-through, 705 24 (24” Wheels) small Low step-through and 806 20” wheel Folding. This bike won the Which? Best Buy Folding electric bike 2023.
3 battery Options. All are 36V. The 3 battery capacities are common to all the bikes. Using the very rough “Rule of Thumb” that a rider gets 3 miles range out of each Ah of a 36V battery, the 375Wh (10.4Ah) should give around 30 miles, the 575Wh (16Ah) 48 miles and 700Wh (19.4Ah) nearly 60 miles.
2 pedal assist sensors. The standard bikes have a Rotation sensor which delivers power depending on the rider’s power selection. Additionallt the “T” range have a Torque Sensor that in addition to the power selection, also delivers the power in proportion to the pressure that the rider puts on the pedals. This is judged to be a more intuitive power delivery and may increase range by about 10% per battery size.
Throttle. The bikes are fitted with legal throttles. Additionally, the bikes may be fitted with full throttles that operate on a “Twist & Go” basis up to 15.5mph. Each individual bike has to be certificated by DVSA. This will delay delivery up to 6 weeks.
Wisper Wayfarer Electric Bikes
The innovative 43V Wayfarer Range of sports electric bikes were launched just before the pandemic and suffered serious problems as a result. The non availability of parts resulting in sub-standard substitutions, not to mention paint problems means that they have not been properly distributed. For 2024, these bikes will fly.
Slightly heavier than a standard ebike to stand up to a more punishing riding style, the 43V electrical system delivers better sports performance and hill climbing ability than a standard 36V e-bike without straying into a new higher level of electrical regulations. The 43V batteries are housed in the down tube giving the bikes a more modern appearance. But true to the Wisper ethos, there are options.
2 Frames: Crossbar and step-through fitted with 27.5” wheels in City, Adventure and Mountain specifications
2 motors: The 50Nm Rear hub motors on the “H” range bikes deliver sparkling performance for a more economical price. The 43V 100Nm Mid-Drive motor fitted to the M range is manufactured by a relatively new motor manufacturer with patents for their drive system in the USA and Japan.
