The new owners of Wisper electric bikes issued a sad Press Release on 7th September explaining to their dealers and others alike the intractable difficulties that they have inherited on their purchase of the brand.
The Difficulties
There is a long standing financial and quality dispute between the previous owners Amps Ltd and their supplier in China – Cycleman over a substantial order placed in October 2021 for delivery in three tranches in Spring 2023. Cycleman manufacture the 705, 905 old 806 and Wayfarer. Deliveries did not commence till October 2022. Inspection of the stock identified widespread quality failures. Only a small portion of the bicycles have ever passed quality inspection and been supplied. Making good the frames disrupted supplies throughout 2023
Current Supply Situation
Meetings between Daforza and Amps with the Cycleman Chief Executive and Sales Director during 2026 have not resulted in Cycleman releasing any stock. Cycleman has now written to set out that it will no longer sell parts to Daforza except under terms that are unacceptable to both Amps and Daforza.
Daforza are seeking alternative sources of supply for common service items. The situation with new batteries is more difficult. It is clear that Cycleman owns the moulds for the rack batteries and that Daforza will have have new moulds made.
Tailwind 806
The Tailwind 806 which is currently in stock at Wispers is not manufactured by Cycleman
Daforza to re-launch a new Wisper Range in 2027
Daforza is confident about the future stating that they have used 2026 to develop a new Wisper Range. Wisper will be re-introduced as a heritage brand with new models in 2027. The new manufacturer will set Wisper apart as a true British marque.
