The Wisper Tailwind crossbar and low crossbar e-bikes have been designed specially for Wisper and tested for compliance so that they can be sold throughout Europe. Particularly, these bikes conform with the German bike crash test requirements. All cables are neatly threaded through the frame and even the front brake cable is lead through the front forks so it cannot foul the spokes. The Tailwinds feature 6061 alloy 19” (480mm) frames with 27.5” wheels. They are powered by a 36V 250w 55Nm rear hub motor which delivers excellent hill climbing ability together with the power to cruise up to 15mph in a high gear. As with all Wispers, the bikes have a UK legal throttle which powers them up to 15mph while you are pedalling. You can see the possibilities of converting the Comfort bikes to Full Throttle mode on the link to the Wisper website. (The lights on the City version do not currently comply with the standards for a full throttle bike). Wisper may be the only bike company that offers this option The lithium battery is neatly located in the downtube ahead of the rider. The 360Wh 36V battery fits flush into the tube. The 540Wh 36V battery shows a small power bulge. The battery can be charged on the bike or unlocked and taken to a more convenient charging spot. Wisper quotes a maximum range of 50 miles for the 360Wh battery. On a reasonably hilly terrain, on medium power, with the rider doing 50% of the work, you can expect assistance for about 30miles. Similarly, you can expect around 45 miles on the 540 batteries. If you use full throttle all the time your range will be further reduced.
